GENDER ASSIMETRIES, VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND PUBLIC POLICIES IN BRAZIL
Abstract
This essay reflects on the violence against women in Brazil, backed by patriarchal culture, as well as on the response of the Brazilian government through legislation and public policies to address this issue. The study was based on bibliographic and documentary research. It was observed that violence against women in Brazil is a structural and multifaceted phenomenon that requires an urgent and continuous response from the State for prevention and combating this phenomenon. It was found that public policies play a fundamental role in promoting and protecting women's rights by providing resources to address situations of violence. Therefore, it is the State's role to promote laws, policies, programs, and mechanisms that provide clear guidelines for the protection of victims and the punishment of aggressors, emphasizing also the importance of society's participation in this joint effort to create a safe environment for women.
